Wormbags
Wormbags is a collection of bags featuring an innovative fastening system for shoulder strap adjustment. Traditional fasteners can be difficult for individuals with fine motor skill challenges, but this system—based on a padded cylinder compressing into a rigid metal piece—is effortless and flexible, requiring no precise movements.
Beyond functionality, aesthetics were equally important. The fashionable padded design enhances comfort, while the soft, cloud-like feel makes the fastening system both playful and satisfying to use. This inspired the bold, colorful identity built around the worm, reinforcing the product’s fun and inviting nature.
Wormbags was developed as part of a semester project at ECAL, focusing on inclusive hardware for soft goods. The designer collaborated closely with ASA Association, their program Tu es Canon, and the Senior Lab, working directly with people with disabilities through monthly meetings. These participants provided invaluable insights by testing prototypes, ensuring the project was deeply rooted in their needs and experiences.
These interactions reinforced the project’s value and broad appeal. While Wormbags was designed with accessibility in mind, it also resonated with a wider audience, demonstrating that inclusive design benefits everyone. True inclusivity is about creating products that are both accessible and desirable.
